999 Third Street

BioMarin is located in the historic city of San Rafael just north of San Francisco. This new development, just one block from the Downtown core of San Rafael, represents a new direction in growth for their existing campus. The full city block site contains two, four story buildings that are connected with a one story amenity building totaling 200,000 square feet of workplace and laboratory space. The site also contains a five story senior housing center and apartments. A large open plaza fronts the complex at the building entry with a unique space under a cantilevered portion of the building that is the “front porch” for the employees. The buildings’ shape, orientation, and cladding all help to create a very sustainable building. A large landscaped roof deck, between the buildings, offers an exterior creative work environment for this innovative biotechnology company. My part in 999 Third Street was to help support entitlements, design development presentations, planning commission presentations, and Lumion model development.
